Two vehicles belonging to Bradley Stoke Town Council were severely damaged in a suspected arson attack in the early hours of Sunday 3rd April. A private vehicle parked in Sherbourne Avenue was also set alight in the early hours. The incidents are understood to account for just three of a total of 20+ vehicles damaged across north Bristol.

The Labour Party has won a second seat on Bradley Stoke Town Council in a controversial by-election that is likely to have cost ratepayers upwards of £8,000 to stage. The seat, one of seven representing the South ward on the 15-seat town council, became vacant on the sad passing of mayor Michael Hill (Conservative) in November last year.

A Bradley Stoke town councillor elected as an Independent at a by-election in May 2021 has announced that she has joined the Labour Party. Cllr Angela Morey won the by-election, for one of the six seats representing the Bradley Stoke North ward, with 38.7 percent of the votes cast. The Labour candidate in the three-way contest picked up just 24.0 percent.

The mayor of Bradley Stoke, Cllr Michael Hill, has passed away following a “very short illness”, the town council has announced. Cllr Hill was elected mayor for the civic year 2021/22 at the council’s annual general meeting in May. He previously lived in Northampton, where he served as a local councillor for many years.

Bradley Stoke Town Council’s first-ever ‘low noise’ fireworks display, held in fine weather conditions at the Jubilee Centre on Sunday 7th November, received a mixed reaction from the public, both at the event itself and afterwards on social media. Town councillors have given the go-ahead for this year’s Bradley Stoke fireworks display, despite lingering concerns relating to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Taking place on Sunday 7th November at the Jubilee Centre, the event will, for the first time in its history, feature specially selected ‘low noise’ fireworks.

The total cost of staging by-elections in May 2021 for two vacant seats on Bradley Stoke Town Council has come in at a staggering £15,187. The charges, levied by South Gloucestershire Council, which administers the local aspects of all elections, fall on the town council to pay.

Bradley Stoke Town Council has agreed to part fund the purchase of two electric bikes for use by the town’s neighbourhood police team. A £2,658 Grant Aid payment was agreed despite some councillors’ reservations over residents being “taxed twice” (having already paid the police precept that is added to council tax bills).
