Trench Lane, Bradley Stoke

Trench Lane is closed 24/7 at the motorway bridge until [Thursday 3rd September; Monday 19th October; Friday 23rd October; end of November 2020] 27th November 2020. [NOW COMPLETED]

Update @ 6pm on Friday 27th November 2020: We’ve seen several reports that the road has now reopened.

Update from South Gloucestershire Council on Thursday 19th November 2020:

“Highways England has confirmed that its essential works to the motorway bridge on Trench Lane is now due to be completed on Friday 27th November. The delay in completing the works was due to further essential works being required which included concrete repairs, re-waterproofing, resurfacing and joint replacement, which could not be carried out without closing the road.”

Latest news (22nd October): Trench Lane road closure extended by another month

Update from Highways England published on the Bradley Stoke Town Council website on 30th September 2020:

“The revised end date is 22nd October 2020 – if we can open Trench Lane bridge deck to traffic earlier while we complete some of the works we will do so.”

Highways England has informed South Gloucestershire Council that there has been a delay in the works at the Trench Lane bridge and the road closure will now have to stay in place until Monday 19th October 2020.

“The works were originally brought forward to be completed during the summer holidays and prevent disruption to Bowsland Green Primary School. Unfortunately it has not been possible to complete them due to unforeseen repair work needed on the bridge.”

Hatchet Road, Stoke Gifford

Works duration: Monday 14th September 2020 for approximately three months [NOW COMPLETED]

Upgrading two existing bus stops to MetroBus-specification stops as part of the Cribbs Patchway MetroBus Extension scheme.

Update issued by SGC on 2nd November 2020:

“An initial phase of upgrades to the north-bound bus stop, near the Sandringham Road/ Ratcliffe Drive roundabout, has been completed.”

“Work will now begin on upgrading the south-bound bus stop, outside the former Co-op store.”

“To enable this work the two-way temporary traffic lights will be moved along Hatchet Road. The temporary lights will continue to be used during off-peak periods only. Work to the south-bound bus stop is expected to last approximately 6 weeks.”

Work has now commenced at the northbound bus stop, just north of the Sandringham Road / Ratcliffe Drive roundabout. Off-peak temporary traffic lights were in use on Monday 14th September 2020.

Braydon Avenue, Little Stoke

Roadside signs have appeared stating that Braydon Avenue will be “closed from Monday 16th November 2020 for seven days”. [NOW COMPLETED]

According to the one.network website, the closure will be between Silver Birch Close and Ash Close (i.e. near the Brook Way end).

Situation at 10am on Monday 16th November 2020:

Braydon Avenue is currently closed between its junctions with Oak Close and Silver Birch Close.

Access to Concorde Medical Centre is possible from the Stoke Lodge end of Braydon Avenue.

Westfield Lane and Church Road junction, Stoke Gifford

Resurfacing work will be taking place along Westfield Lane, Stoke Gifford, and on its junction with Church Road. The works will be carried out overnight under a road closure. The road closure will be in place between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday, from Wednesday 30th September until Saturday 10th October 2020. [NOW COMPLETED]

Bowsland Way, Bradley Stoke

Installation of raised table at existing zebra crossing on Bowsland Way, near Bowsland Green Primary School until [Friday 27th August; Friday 4th September] Friday 2nd October 2020. [COMPLETED]

Update provided by SGC on 9th September:

“The civil engineering work is complete. We have the new speed table to install which will take place during an overnight road closure.”

“This has been held back until the resurfacing of Woodlands Lane has finished. The Bowsland Way speed table will now be installed the week commencing 28th September or soon thereafter, an exact date will be confirmed nearer the time.”

“The temporary traffic lights on Bowsland Way will remain in place to provide suitable gaps in the traffic for pedestrians to cross until the new crossing is fully commissioned.”

Woodlands Lane, Bradley Stoke

Works duration: Thursday 17th September 2020 for approximately six days.

Resurfacing of Pear Tree Roundabout and short sections of Great Park Road and Pear Tree road leading off it. Overnight road closures (excluding weekends) 8pm to 6am. [COMPLETED]

An update provided by SGC on 10th September stated that the planned start date has shifted from 15th to 17th September.

A news item on the First West of England website states that the work will take place from 17th to 24th September. The 73 bus service will divert along Bradley Stoke Way and Bowsland Way. The bus stops between and including Woodlands Park and Trench Lane will not be served.

Orpheus Avenue (Little Stoke) / Brook Way (Bradley Stoke)

Sections of Brook Way and Orpheus Avenue will be closed for resurfacing (Monday to Friday daytime only) until [Wednesday 9th September; Friday 11th September] Tuesday 15th September 2020. [COMPLETED]

Update provided by SGC on 9th September:

“The resurfacing work is due to finish by the end of this week. Work on the new road surface is expected to be completed today, with the new road markings on Thursday and Friday (10th & 11th September).”

On 11th September, an entry appeared on one.network implying that these works could continue to Tuesday 15th September.

Great Stoke (Rabbit) Roundabout

Overnight closures of Great Stoke (Rabbit) Roundabout and all approach roads until [Friday 28th August; Friday 4th September] Friday 11th September 2020 (inclusive; weather permitting). [COMPLETED]

Update provided by SGC on 9th September:

“We have one more night’s worth of work left to complete the high-friction surfacing which was delayed due to bad weather. We hope to be able to carry this out on Friday 11th September, subject to weather.”

2nd February to 1st March 2020

Woodlands Lane, Bradley Stoke

Works duration: 24th to 27th February 2020

Resurfacing scheme. Overnight road closures from 8pm to 6am.

Great Stoke Roundabout (a.k.a. Rabbit Roundabout; ongoing)

Road widening, new toucan crossings and cyclist and pedestrian improvement scheme. Work began on 2nd January 2020 and will last 12 months. Predominantly narrow lanes and single lanes.

Gipsy Patch Lane, Little Stoke (ongoing)

Stop/Go boards will continue to be used on Gipsy Patch Lane at the railway bridge. These will only be used as needed when workers and machinery from the construction site need to safely cross Gipsy Patch Lane. Their use will be kept to a minimum and as far as possible will be kept to off-peak times.

Gipsy Patch Lane will be closed to all road users at the railway bridge from Thursday 5th March 2020 for approximately eight months. This closure will allow the new railway bridge to be moved into place and for further work to be carried out on the highway below to make way for the new bus lanes and shared use cycle and pedestrian pathways.

When the full closure starts additional signs will be put out onto the local road network to sign the diversion route, which will take motorists via Bradley Stoke Way and the A38.
