Hambrook Lane, Harry Stoke

Hambrook Lane is closed to all traffic at its junction with the Stoke Gifford By-Pass commencing Monday 25th January 2021 for nine months. The closure is needed to enable works on a new 4-way signalised junction being constructed in support of a major new housing development in the area.

Status: Completed by 26th September 2021. Access from/to Hambrook Lane to/from the Stoke Gifford By-Pass is now ‘left in, left out’ only, i.e. it is not possible to go straight across the by-pass when travelling along Hambrook Lane from Stoke Gifford / Harry Stoke. Additionally, Hambrook Lane is currently blocked east of the by-pass (Hambrook side).

Hatchet Road / Brierly Furlong, Stoke Gifford

To enable footway widening works under Parkway Bridge, Hatchet Road / Brierly Furlong will need to be closed overnight for ten weekday nights between the hours of 8pm and 6am from Monday 23rd August to Friday 3rd September 2021. The road will be closed between its junction with the Bristol Parkway Station access road and Church Road.

Old Gloucester Road, Hambrook

Full closure of Old Gloucester Road for five weeks from Monday 26th July 2021.

This is the stretch between Winterbourne Road and Bristol Road, Hambrook.

We believe the closure is required to construct a new access road for the East of Harry Stoke (north of railway) housing development site owned by Wainhomes and South Gloucestershire Council.

Gifford Crescent, Little Stoke

Full closure of Gifford Crescent, extending from its junction with B4057 Gipsy Patch Lane to its junction with the roundabout at Kingsway, for an anticipated two months starting Monday 5th July 2021.

Responsibility for works: South Gloucestershire Council

Works description: Drainage works consist of new drainage pipe / new drainage system installation or the repair of existing drainage systems.

Status: Works completed, but road remains closed as part of the Gipsy Patch Lane one-way scheme introduced on 6th September 2021.

Station Road, Little Stoke

Temporary traffic lights at Little Stoke Farm railway bridge (near the entrance to Little Stoke Sort It recycling centre) from 4th May to approximately 2nd July 2021. Source: one.network

Additionally, the footpath over the bridge, which links Little Stoke Park with Redfield Road, Patchway, will be closed for the same period.

A spokesperson for Network Rail told the Journal:

“Network Rail is undertaking brickwork repairs and work to improve the structural condition of the side culverts either side of the railway at the recycling centre site. As a result the footpath [over the bridge] has needed to be closed for up to eight weeks for safety reasons to ensure the worksite is secure from the public. The footpath diversion is via Redfield Road, Gloucester Road and Station Road. There are no road traffic diversions, just [temporary] traffic lights to manage traffic on Station Road.”

Gipsy Patch Lane, Filton

Works duration: [Seven weeks from Monday 4th January 2021] Until approximately 7th June 2021

The work will involve repairing a badly damaged culvert close to the road’s junction with the A38. The repair work is being carried out during the Gipsy Patch Lane road closure, while traffic levels are low to minimise any disruption.

To enable the work to be carried out, one lane will be closed westbound along Gipsy Patch Lane, between Taurus Road and the junction with the A38, from Monday 4th January for approximately seven weeks. The adjacent footpath will also be closed during the work.

Update from South Gloucestershire Council on Monday 29th March 2021:

“Drainage repair work will continue along Gipsy Patch Lane, Filton, this week. To enable the work to be carried out, one lane will be closed to traffic westbound along Gipsy Patch Lane, between Titan Road and Taurus Road, from today (Monday 29th March) for approximately 8 weeks. The adjacent footpath will also be closed during the work.”

Hatchet Road, Stoke Gifford

There will be overnight closures (8pm-6am) at Parkway railway bridge from 14th June to 25th June 2021.

The road closures are necessary so the council can carry out work to improve lighting and signage at the railway bridge.

Note: This work is unconnected with the temporary measures at Parkway Bridge which are in place to enable social distancing and encourage active travel.

Hatchet Road, Stoke Gifford

There will be an overnight closure (8pm-6am) at Parkway railway bridge on the night of Wednesday 19th May 2021.

The road closure is necessary so the council can carry out surveys for installing warning signs for high vehicles. Additional closures will be needed in June to install the signs.

Temporary traffic lights will also be in place near the Parkway Station roundabout while Bristol Water carry out some resurfacing work at the same time. Access to Parkway station will only be available from the northern approach on Hatchet Road.

A signed diversion route will be in place via Hatchet Road, Winterbourne Rd (B4057), Great Stoke Way, A4174 Ring Road to MoD roundabout and Brierly Furlong.

Gipsy Patch Lane, Little Stoke

A further restriction on traffic flow along Gipsy Patch Lane, Little Stoke, came into force on Monday 8th March 2021 with the closure of a section of the westbound carriageway just west of the Little Stoke Lane junction, for approximately eight weeks.

A signed diversion route for westbound traffic will be available via Little Stoke Lane, Kingsway, and Gifford Crescent.

Additionally, the eastbound carriageway on Gipsy Patch Lane at the same location will be reduced to a single lane.

The carriageway and lane closures are needed as part of work to upgrade two existing bus stops to MetroBus specification.

Trench Lane, near Bradley Stoke

The Journal understands that overnight closures of Trench Lane, at the M4 overbridge, are planned for the period Monday 19th April to Monday 26th April 2021. See: https://one.network/?GB121770283

In response to an enquiry from the Journal, Highways England project manager Tom Elliott said:

“We’re carrying out further structural work on the M4 Trench Lane overbridge, following an initial refurbishment scheme last year. The work is taking place overnight, between 7pm and 6am, to minimise disruption, and we thank people in advance for their patience.”

Hatchet Road, Stoke Gifford

Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in use on Hatchet Road, just north of the Ratcliffe Drive / Sandringham Road roundabout for approximately four days during w/c Monday 22nd March 2021.

The traffic management is required to facilitate installation of a new MetroBus shelter at the northbound bus stop.

Hatchet Road, Stoke Gifford

A length of Hatchet Road, closest to the Gipsy Patch Lane Roundabout, will be closed 8pm-6am each night from [Wednesday 10th February; Wednesday 3rd March 2021] Thursday 4th March 2021 to [Tuesday 16th February; Friday 12th February] Saturday 6th March 2021 (two nights) for resurfacing. Update (3rd March): First Bus is reporting that this road closure will now take place “between 20:00 and 06:00 on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th March (two nights)”. No news from South Gloucestershire Council.

Update (22nd February): Well, this didn’t happen on 10th February 2021 (despite South Gloucestershire Council posting on Facebook at 3pm on that day that the work was going ahead). The council now says the overnight road closures will last for three nights starting Wednesday 3rd March 2021.

A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council said:

The road needs to be closed while resurfacing works take place. Access for residents will be maintained wherever possible and a signed diversion will be in place during the closure.”

“Removing the existing road surface will create a significant amount of noise and we are sorry for any inconvenience.”

Stoke Gifford By-Pass (Rosedown Drive)

Works duration: Approximately nine months starting Monday 4th January 2021

Location: Just south of the Hambrook Lane junction

Works to provide a new four-way signalised junction into the proposed Crest Nicholson housing development on land west of the by-pass. Bus lanes closed.

Little Stoke Lane

Location: Opposite Rossall Avenue junction

Reconstruction and resurfacing of footway along north-west side of the Mike Gallivan Memorial Playing Fields. Off-peak temporary traffic lights on Little Stoke Lane.

Bradley Stoke Way

Works duration: Two weeks from Monday 18th January 2021 [COMPLETED 28th January 2021]

Replacement of vehicle restraint system on Bradley Stoke Way at Stoke Brook Bridge*. Two-way temporary traffic signals in operation.

* Stoke Brook Bridge is between Savages Wood Roundabout and Webbs Wood Roundabout, where the road passes over the brook and footpath in the Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve.

Update from South Gloucestershire Council on 21st January 2021:

Work has started to install safety barriers at Stoke Brook Bridge on Bradley Stoke Way. Temporary traffic lights will be in place for 2 weeks during the work.  The lights will be operated manually during morning and evening peak periods to minimise disruption.
