A monthly farmers’ market looks set to go ahead at Bradley Stoke’s Willow Brook Centre following discussions between the centre’s management and the Town Council.
Plans to set up a regular market suffered a setback last month when the Council’s Leisure, Youth & Amenities Committee was told that objections had been received from one of the major businesses at the centre.
Centre Manager Scott Lahive later told the Bristol Evening Post:
“Three or four of the 22 businesses in the centre raised concerns, most of which were to do with possible congestion and parking problems, as opposed to fears that the market would damage business”.
But last night’s meeting of Full Council was told that the issues have now been resolved and the market will run for a trial three month period, starting on Wednesday 13th October (one week later than originally planned).
Town Clerk Sharon Petela told the meeting that the main objections had centred around potential disruption caused by market traders (un)loading vehicles in and around the Town Square.
The first (October) market will be limited to produce sellers with Artisan (craft) traders being allowed from November.

Why do they do these things on a weekday? They’re usually only from 9-3, and working people aren’t going to be able to come.
That’s a real shame, because I would love for this to take off, but until we can get a proper Saturday market it’s probably going to fail.
Great idea but totally the wrong day.
Given the demographics of the BS population, the vast majority will be at work when this takes place.
Fingers crossed it gets moved to a weekend otherwise it will pass this household by.
Hopefully it will take off but we will stick to Green Park Station in Bath on a Saturday as unfortunately we both work Monday to Friday
Agree with you all about how frustrating it is that things like this, with real potential in a town such as BS, constantly are scheduled when so many people just won’t be able to go.

Each market runs from 10am to 3pm in the Town Square at the Willow Brook Centre, Savages Road Bradley Stoke.
About time! I agree with the others that it’s not exactly the right day, but it’s a start.
What a shame its not on a weekend when more people would be able to attend. Lets hope we can have a weekend one nearer Christmas.
