New home in Bradley Stoke for Stokes Singers

You’d be forgiven for wondering what has happened to Stokes Singers, the well-established local community choir. Lockdown was a huge blow to everyone as meeting to sing together was not possible for a long time but the enforced break gave the group a chance to make some changes for the better.

The biggest change has been a move back to Bradley Stoke where the choir first began in 1993. At that time the town was a mix of new homes and building sites and Stokes Singers was one of the first groups to offer an opportunity for the community to come together to make music.

Since September the choir have a new home at Holy Trinity Church in Broad Croft, Bradley Stoke and have received a warm welcome from the church congregation who have even managed to accommodate an extensive library of sheet music.

As with all moves, it has taken a while to settle in but the choir, led by musical director Sian Walters, are in good voice and have a number of mini performances planned for the festive season. These include joining Sian’s Good Afternoon Choir for the Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church, Yate, on Saturday 3rd December and singing at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway during the evening of Thursday 8th December.

As all the Singers have been exceptionally good this year they are looking forward to singing to Father Christmas at Poplars Farm Café, Frampton Cotterell during the morning of Sunday 11th December. Later the same day the choir will be at the Willow Brook shopping centre in Bradley Stoke. Then, on Saturday 17th December, Stokes Singers will be welcoming visitors to Holy Trinity Church with Christmas songs and carols in the foyer before the carol service begins.
