Bradley Stoke Community School (BSCS) has praised the “exceptional” performances of its students in the first set of external GCSE examinations since 2019.

A spokesperson for the school said:

“This year group have shown incredible resilience and determination throughout the terrible disruption to their education caused by the worst public health emergency in living history. We could not be prouder of their achievements, and we congratulate them and thank our amazing set of teachers for the brilliant way they have supported students over the last two years.”

“These results are truly exceptional, despite students losing almost 18 months of teaching time due to the pandemic.”

The proportion of students achieving both English and Mathematics at Grade 4 or above was 81 percent (compared to 82 percent in 2019).

Headteacher Steve Moir, commenting on this final set of results under his leadership, said:

“We are all incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and that their immense hard work has paid off to produce a brilliant year of results. This is all the more impressive with the additional challenges these students overcame through the Covid lockdown which had such an impact on their normal schooling.”

Pete Lynch, who will be interim headteacher from September, added:

“We are delighted with these exceptional results under extraordinary circumstances. Never in education have students overcome such adversity and disruption to their learning; their hard work and diligence shows in these outcomes. I would also like to say these results are a reflection of our committed staff and caring parents, who have supported these students through various lockdowns and online learning. They both have consistently gone above and beyond and this is evident today.”

Dave Baker, CEO at Olympus Academy Trust, said:

“I am delighted for every student who has tasted success today and wish them all well in the next phase of their education and training. I hope we will see many of them signing up at the start of September to continue with us in the Olympus Post-16 Partnership.”

“I would also like to thank all Olympus staff who have worked so hard to teach, encourage, support and challenge their students over the years alongside parents and carers who have had to be more actively involved than usual because of the pandemic.”

“For any students who have not done as well as they had hoped, these results are not the end of the road – I urge you to come into school and talk to staff about how we can support you with your next steps too.”
