Letters detailing offers of secondary school places for admission in September 2009 have been posted today (using 2nd class mail) by South Gloucestershire Council. Parents/carers who applied online will be able to view the results on the Internet from “late afternoon” today, provided they can remember their username and password (chosen at the time of application).
Bradley Stoke Community School (BSCS) is expected to be over-subscribed for the fifth year running, with the school saying there has been “huge interest again in places this September”. The majority of places (once children with special circumstances have been considered) will most likely once again be determined by proximity of a child’s home address to the school, measured using the “nearest available walking route”.
The school has a nominal intake of 180 pupils per year. In 2008, a total of 88 applicants who had indicated a highest ranked preference for BSCS were refused places.
An Ofsted report in October 2006 rated the school as “good”. A return visit from the Ofsted inspectors is expected later this year.
BSCS became a combined languages and performing arts specialist school with effect from September 2008. The school is also hoping to be allocated funding for sixth form provision. Planning permission for a new sixth form extension has been granted and a decision on funding is expected in the next few weeks.
