Bradley Stoke’s Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Jones has chosen the National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (NACC) for the Mayor’s Charity this year.
Cllr Robert Jones explained that the charity held a special significance for him personally “I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease five years ago and at the time I knew nothing about the condition. By choosing NACC as my charity for the year and talking about my own experience, I hope to raise awareness of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases as well as raising money”.
Together Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease, which are both chronic conditions, affect approximately 1 in 400 people in the UK and with symptoms including unrelenting diarrhoea, bleeding, severe pain and exhaustion, Colitis and Crohn’s can have a devastating impact on school, work, family and social life. NACC is the leading UK charity helping people to get their lives back on track, campaigning for better healthcare and commissioning vital research. The charity has 70 local groups around the UK and the funds raised in Bradley Stoke will go to the Avon group which supports patients and their families across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset.
