New and improved facilities including adventure climbing walls, two-storey adventure play, a 12-station toning suite and fully refurbished changing rooms are being created at Active Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre as part of a £3.6 million redevelopment programme.
The work, which starts next week (w/c Monday 15th February), will also result in over 100 new parking spaces and a major extension to the existing gym area.
The project is a collaboration between Circadian Trust, who operate Active Centres across South Gloucestershire, and South Gloucestershire Council and will be carried out in three phases. The first is the conversion of squash courts to accommodate two new, larger dance studios across two floors and the refurbishment of the female dry changing rooms.
Later in the spring, the main sports hall will be converted to accommodate a revolutionary new auto-belay climbing wall experience and an extensive adventure play. Alongside this, the male dry changing rooms will be refurbished, the gym and café extended and additional parking spaces created.
The final phase will be the conversion of the existing softplay into a new Shapemaster toning suite, two party rooms and refurbishment of the function suites on the first floor. There will also be improvements to the library to make it more accessible.
It is anticipated the work will be completed by January 2017.

“There will inevitably be some disruption, such as noise and changes to the car parking arrangements, but we plan to keep this to a minimum and run the vast majority of services as normal. We will be keeping customers up to date with regular newsletters and information displayed within the building and on the website.”
Active Bradley Stoke is one of seven Active Centres run by Circadian Trust, an innovative, charitable social enterprise who deliver and manage leisure facilities across South Gloucestershire in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council.
Heather Goddard, chair of the South Gloucestershire Council’s Communities Committee, added:
“This £3.6 million investment by the council will allow Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre to grow, offering more choice of activities for more people in a growing area. The upgraded facilities will reflect the council’s commitment to future demand and to encouraging active lifestyles.”
The Trust has also almost completed a £0.25 million pound upgrade at Thornbury Leisure Centre, including the relocation of the existing gym to a larger, newly refurbished room with new functional fitness equipment, new dance studio with sprung floor, and a new dedicated Studio Cycling room.
