Local group’s ‘couch to 5km’ course attracts more than 50 new runners

Participants in North Bristol Running Group's 'school run' prepare to set off from Bradley Stoke Surgery.

What an exciting month April is! The sun is shining, it is lighter and brighter and we are seeing more and more enthusiastic athletes out and about. Some of our runners are training for marathons and other challenges, whilst our first group of Couch to 5km runners (now the Improvers’ Group) are doing very well in reaching their 10km goal – just in time to run the Bradley Stoke 10km in June. The runners joining the School Run are doing parts of the Bradley Stoke 10km route to get used to the challenges they will face.

We are all so impressed with the turnout for the second Couch to 5km group that started in April. An amazing group of 56 new runners arrived for the first session. “I am completely overwhelmed,” said Alan Wilcox. We wish all the new runners the best of luck with their training and look forward to seeing them take part in the Little Stoke parkrun soon.

It can be very hot running at this time of year, so please remember to wear a hat and make sure you have water available, either during your run, or soon after you get back from running. If you can, try and run with company.

If you would like to start running or get back into running, come along and join this friendly bunch. There is no charge for running with the group – simply arrive at the advertised times and there is sure to be someone who will run with you.

The group meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm and the School Run group meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9.15pm. All runs start from Bradley Stoke Surgery on Brook Way.
