Motorists heading out of Bradley Stoke through Stoke Lodge look likely to find themselves having to negotiate two separate sets of temporary traffic lights on Stoke Lane for the next few weeks.
Last week, South Gloucestershire Council began construction of a new zebra crossing on Stoke Lane south of the Painswick Avenue junction. A separate project on the same road due to start this week involves the construction of a zebra crossing south of the Dyrham Parade junction.
Temporary traffic lights are already in place at the Painswick Avenue junction and another set of lights is due to be installed soon at the Dyrham Parade junction (source: roadworks.org).
The latest roadworks, which are both scheduled for completion by the last week in February, come just weeks after three-way temporary traffic lights were deployed during improvement works at the junction of Stoke Lane and Amberley Road, causing long delays at peak times.
Commuters are already having to contend with delays caused by ongoing roadworks at junction 16 of the M5, where South Gloucestershire Council is widening the roundabout carriageway (currently scheduled for completion this month) and also widening the A38 southbound approach to the roundabout (until April).
Also at junction 16 of the M5, the Highways Agency has recently commenced work on the northbound exit slip road to add an extra lane for traffic turning left towards the A38 heading north. This £1.6m project is due to be completed by the end of March.
Improvement work on the southbound exit slip road at junction 17 of the M5 (Cribbs Causeway) is also currently in progress, with a planned completion date of the end of February.
Other major roadworks ongoing in the Bristol North Fringe area include those at Gipsy Patch Lane (scheduled for completion at the end of March), Bristol Road in Hambrook (until June) and the A38 Gloucester Road North near Filton Roundabout (until July).
Major roadworks in Bradley Stoke associated with the £102m North Fringe to Hengrove Package MetroBus project could start as early as April, subject to final approval being granted by the Government.

We have to put up with it if we want or roads and everything else sorted out around here my good a bit of waiting in traffic isn’t going to kill us
I don’t think that people in the main are against road works to improve traffic flow, but cannot understand why all the work has to be done at the same time!
Getting in and out of the “Stokes” in the morning and evening “rush hours” is a nightmare at present.
