Young people from the Bradley Stoke area are actively planning and organising a two day skate event during the upcoming Community Festival weekend of Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th June.
On the Saturday there will be a 5 foot high half pipe on the main festival site at Jubilee Green and on the Sunday the half pipe will move to the existing Skate Park site at the Leisure Centre to create additional space for an all day competition for Scooter, BMX, Skateboard and Inline skate disciplines.
Young people have set up a ‘Bradley Stoke Skate Park’ Facebook page to promote the two day event and provide competition details. The page will also soon have regular updates and consultation on the development of the proposed new spray concrete Skate Park at the Leisure Centre.
The Sunday competition will run between 11am and 5pm with registration between 9.30am and 10.30am (please try and get entry forms in before the day as it will greatly help with planning).
Information on entry, entry and consent forms and the planned running order of the day will all be on the Facebook page (the order of the day may change with numbers).
There will be separate competitions for Under 13 and 13 to 17 for both Scooter riders and BMXers. In addition, there will be an over 18 (and pro riders) BMX knock out Jam and an “all in” Skateboard and Inline competition.
There is a £2 entrance fee for each competition, with an array of prizes to be won. The use of helmets is compulsory and other safety equipment is recommended; some helmets will be available on the day.
Both festival days will have several pro rider demos from scooter riders, BMXers and skateboarders and the Saturday will offer “have a go sessions” with some equipment provided.
All are welcome to both days and the Sunday will offer barbecued food and drink at reasonable prices (courtesy of Soho caterers) and ice cream (Licata), so come along and be amazed by some of the skills and talents of local young people, both as competitors and organisers.
The two days are funded by South Gloucestershire Council’s Positive Activity Fund and through sponsorship from the Willow Brook Centre. Young people’s involvement in planning and organising the festival is supported by Bradley Stoke Town Council’s Youth Participation & Development Worker and other youth work staff.
