There was a feast of girls’ football at Baileys Court on Sunday morning with both the Under-10 and Under-11 Girls in action for Bradley Stoke Youth FC (BSYFC).
The U10s faced Downend Flyers, opponents they lost 9-0 to at their last meeting. They did well soaking pressure up in the first period of the game – an excellent piece of defending kept Downend out, but they were not able to stop them scoring later on in the game as a good strike from inside the penalty area found its way into the bottom corner. This pushed Downend on to get another which they did minutes later when a corner fell to one of their attackers and she chipped the keeper from close range. Another three good goals entered the back of the net for Downend in the second half, which means they eventually won the game 5-0.
After the U10s game had finished, attentions turned to the high-flying U11s, who faced Longwell Green Blue and pulled off some impressive passing moves which pleased the large crowd in attendance. Captain Daisy Ackerman secured a first half hatrick with an excellent powerful strikes which found their way to the bottom corner. One excellent strike from outside the penalty area surprised the crowd as well, but positively contributed to the score line. Maddie Hilbert claimed a goal in the first half with an excellent finish and pulled off a fantastic pass to set up Olivia Hood for her first goal of the game.
This put a positive spin on the way the team played in the second half and Olivia Hood put the ball into the back of the net soon into the second half to get the team back off to a good start. Not as many goals in the second half, Zoe Maddock hitting the post and captain Daisy Ackerman claiming her fourth goal of the game wrapped up the match with Millie Eveleigh and Paige Fowler working well together at the back to clear up any chance of a Longwell Green attack.
A very positive way to start 2014. Final score: 8-0.

More football: Another win for Almondsbury UWE
There was an impressive performance from Almondsbury UWE FC on Saturday afternoon, as they beat Chippenham Park FC 3-0.
They started the game off well with the first chance coming in under a minute – an excellent move down the right hand side of the field resulting in the ball being cleared. It was soon revealed why the team chose to spread the ball wide – the middle of the pitch turned unplayable. However, Almondsbury got their first goal from the right hand side of the pitch, an excellent finish from the right back who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
There were no more goals in the first half, although there could have been a couple, some fantastic defending from the opposition team denied Almondsbury the chance to have a clear gap going into the second half.
They did however get their second not long into the second half of the game when the ball was parried by the goalkeeper (but not out of the danger area) and it fell loose to one of the attackers who was able to strike it into the back of the net. This then put a spring in Almondsbury’s step as they carried on playing some fantastic football.
The third goal came in the last third of the game, a positive attacking move down the right hand side of the field led to one of the Almondsbury players being fouled in the penalty area. This then resulted in the referee pointing to the spot and the home side were able to complete a successful victory slotting the penalty home nicely.
The victory means Almondsbury move onto five wins in six games under new manager John Black.
