Cricket club president honoured with ‘lifetime achievement’ award

Mike Mundy, President of Bradley Stoke Cricket Club.

Mike Mundy, president and founder member of Bradley Stoke Cricket Club (BSCC), has been awarded a ‘lifetime achievement’ award by Gloucestershire Cricket Board.

This is one of eight categories within the NatWest OSCA award scheme, run by the England and Wales Cricket Board to recognise those making outstanding contributions to grass roots cricket. As a winner of the county award, Mike has been nominated for the national award as well, and invited to attend an awards dinner at Lords where the winners will be announced and trophies presented by England cricketers past and present.

Mike has won this award through 22 years of hard work and commitment which has seen the town’s cricket club develop from a one team set-up to be one of the largest clubs in Bristol with four Saturday sides, two Sunday sides, a mid-week league for local business and also four youth sides. He has been the drive, backbone and commitment that has kept Bradley Stoke Cricket Club going over the years.

Cricket: Weekend results

The BSCC First team ended their 2013 league campaign with a loss to Dyrham and Hinton on Saturday afternoon at Baileys Court. The hosts bowled first and despite spinner Wayne Passmore taking five wickets for just 47 runs, they couldn’t stop the visitors scoring a stunning total of 237 for the loss of 8 wickets, the visitors’ top three batsmen making a combined total of 163.

In the second innings, when it was Bradley Stoke’s turn to bat, they lost opening batsman Adam Davis for a score of just 16 runs. Bhushan Mankar followed that with six runs after a cheap dismissal of the middle order. It was left to the tail order to hit the rest of the runs but Ash Baber gave his wicket away to ensure that the visitors came away with the win by a margin of 173 runs.

Football: Bradley Stoke Town FC (BSTFC)

The BSTFC Saturday sides started their league campaigns at the weekend. The Reserve Team faced Greyfriars Athletic in a game which they lost 4-2. The B Team lost 2-0 to Wessex Wanderers. The A Team won 5-3 over Brimsham Green. The First Team start their campaign this evening (Tuesday 3rd) with a game against Rangeworthy that kicks off at 6.30pm.

Rugby: St Mary’s Old Boys RFC Minis
