Bradley Stoke Town Football Club’s (BSTFC’s) season is nearly over now and Saturday afternoon was the last game for the A Team.
The team faced Stanton Drew in manager Chris Laslett’s last game in charge but things didn’t go their way as they stepped off the gas, losing 4-0.
The first goal, only a couple of minutes into the game, came after a cross from Mark Ferby on the left hand side somehow made its way into the goalmouth assisted by the wind. The second, only ten minutes later as the defence slipped up, allowing Andrew Payne to sneak through and put the ball over the keeper to ensure that Bradley Stoke were 2-0 down at the break.
Just five minutes into the second half and Stanton Drew had their third goal on the tally – Andrew Payne with another chip over the keeper, only for him to see it bounce back off the post, but he was the first one to the ball and was able to poke it into the open Bradley Stoke net. The fourth Stanton Drew goal came from another good strike by Payne who was able to seal his hat-trick in doing so.

The B Team also had a game, which was also their last of the season. They did their captain Sean Watts proud, who had to be taken off because of a suspected broken ankle, by winning the game 1-0 on a windy pitch where both teams found it difficult to do anything with the ball, but it was Bradley Stoke who scored in the first half against a strong Iron Acton side.
Cricket: Bradley Stoke Cricket Club (BSCC)
The First, Second and Third Teams all had their first league games of the season this weekend.
The Firsts had a disappointing start to their senior league campaign – they travelled to Bristol YMCA and lost by five wickets.
Put into bat by YMCA, they did not set a high enough total, with only Joe Coles (77) and Ben Wooster (36) really impacting on the scoring. After the 45 overs they had scored 169.
YMCA responded with an 82 not out by Butler and a 41 by Milsom, who was also in at the end. Despite a creditable 3 for 33 from Bhushan Mankar, YMCA reached the total with 8 overs to spare.
I also watched the BSCC Seconds who also played YMCA Seconds but with a very different result.
YMCA batted first with Spink and Hughes both getting 50s but an outstanding 5-37 from Bradley Stoke’s Chris Phillips limited the visitors’ score to 193 in the 45 overs.
Bradley Stoke struggled to start with, their first two wickets falling for 14, but Gareth Price settled the side with some steady batting and, partnered by Jason Grail who added 31 before being bowled by Shar, continued adding runs with Jim Tickner.
With Price on 98 and the total runs needed fast being knocked off, it did look at one point as though he would not make his century but he finally took strike and won the match with a boundary taking his individual score to 101 not out. Jim Tickner was not out 33, meaning the Seconds won by six wickets.
The Thirds also had a landslide victory over Bristol United Banks, setting a total of 252-9 with an outstanding 111 from Sririam. They dismissed United banks for just 92 runs in 36 overs.

Judo: Bradley Stoke Judo Club (BSJC)
BSJC coach Pete Douglas writes:
“Pete Miles fought in his first ever Junior European Cup this weekend in Lithuanian and managed to come away with the gold [medal]. This competition was under-21s. Pete still fights under-18s but we thought the step up would be a good experience. We didn’t expect him to win it! A massive ‘well done’!”

Bowls: Bradley Stoke Bowls Club

On Saturday 13th April, Bradley Stoke Bowls Club opened for the 2013 season by holding a ‘Roll Up’ for members. The day was very well supported with everybody enjoying being back on the green. By 12 noon the rain came and the decision was taken to stop play, all was not lost as we adjourned to the bar and caught up with friends we’d not seen during the winter months.
Wednesday 24th April saw the Club hosting a ‘Bring A Friend Day’ and, although the day was rather bleak, a number of ‘friends’ came along and were welcomed by the club captain Bill Plank. Information was given about the game and the club, followed by the opportunity to go on the green and ‘having a go’. Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves and we are now looking forward to seeing the potential new members again in the near future.
