Sunday morning saw a tense game between reigning champions St George Veterans and Bradley Stoke Town Veterans, a hard fought game that ended up with the favourites winning 4-1.
Bradley Stoke, who travelled to St George for the game, were missing the pace of Adam Sykes as he is out with a back injury.
Early on in the game a St George free kick eluded the Bradley Stoke defence and was slotted home by the right winger. The second goal, shortly after, a powerful header that left Bradley Stoke goalkeeper Brendon Wilson stranded.
After half time, Bradley Stoke failed to take advantage of some tactical substitutions and St George took a third, and in quick succession, a fourth from an energetic St George midfielder.
After this, Bradley Stoke tried to stay tight at the back with Steve Kerton dropping back with Martin Lee and Jon Welsh in the Hornets’ defence. This was a good choice as on the counter attack, Bradley Stoke were able to reduce the consolation as Carl O’Connell was in the right place at the right time to bring the score back to 4-1.
That was how the game finished after some more solid football from the Bradley Stoke Town Veterans.

Bradley Stoke Town FC’s First Team played on Saturday; they travelled to Boco only to play in a hard fought 0-0 draw. Every member of the team played well and it was another solid performance from the team, however the pitch conditions did not help the football being played. There were a couple of chances from Bradley Stoke that could have been put away but veteran keeper Brendon Wilson made a few excellent saves to keep Bradley Stoke in the game.

AEK Boco Red 0-1 Bradley Stoke Girls U10s
Bradley Stoke capped off a superb season with victory in their last game of the season away to Boco Red. Bradley Stoke took a while to get going and can be forgiven for being a bit jaded after the season they have had, but that didn’t stop Lydia Tang dominating the midfield today with some great tackles and through balls and she recovered bravely from a painful ball to the face from point blank range to take player of the match. It took 14 minutes for the first real clear cut chance to come through and it fell to leading goal scorer Kayleigh Jennings, who despite having her shirt pulled back, held off the defender and slotted home from just inside the box to give Bradley Stoke the lead at the break.
The second half saw Boco Red apply some pressure but Bradley Stoke defended well with Emily Hulbert and Millie Eveleigh proving strong at the back, but it was left to goalkeeper Zoe Maddock to pull off a wonderful save as a pile driver from a Boco player saw Zoe save superbly to keep the home side out. At the other end, Maddie Hilbert continued to impress with some flashy skills including a wonderful turn that left her marker stranded and her shot flashed narrowly wide of the far post. Daisy Ackerman also tried her luck from distance but shot flew over the bar. It was a solid win from the U10 Girls to sign off the season with three points.
Team manager James Everleigh said:
“It’s wonderful to finish the season on a high and on balance I think we just edged what was a tight match today. It’s down to other results now as to where we finish be it second or third but whatever the outcome it’s been a remarkable season from the girls.”
“We have come on so much in the past six months since the opening game and every girl should be proud of their contribution to the successes this season. The girls can enjoy a well-earned rest now before we regroup for the summer tournaments. Well done and a big thank you from me!”
