After their outstanding victory last week against Portville Warriors, the Bradley Stoke Town FC (BSTFC) First Feam took on Talbot Knowle who are comfortably sitting in second place. It was an excellent game that saw Bradley Stoke claim three points, with a 1-0 win, after some magnificent defending.
Just five minutes into the first half, Talbot Knowle hit the post and were showing their superiority as they dominated possession and made Bradley Stoke work hard for the ball. Only three minutes later, however, it was Bradley Stoke who took an early lead as a Brad Clarke header was saved, only for it to fall to midfielder Andy Turner who bent the ball into the top corner. This was his second goal in as many games as he got the winner against Portville Warrior in the team’s previous game.
After the goal, Bradley Stoke continued to heap pressure on the visitors, who struggled to keep the ball in the remainder of the first half. As tempers were raised, both teams got more and more frustrated. At the end of the first half, Bradley Stoke could have conceded a goal if it wasn’t for home keeper, Brendon Wilson, who kept them in the game as he tipped a one-on-one chance around the post for a corner that was cleared.
At the end of the first half, Bradley Stoke remained in the lead, the half time score: 1-0.
When the sides came out for the second half, the play was scrappy and Bradley Stoke were under continual pressure. They were struggling for possession and keeper Wilson had to make a fine string of saves to keep them in the game.
Finally, Bradley Stoke were able to get the ball clear for a few breaks as they went on the attack for ten minutes midway through the second half, chances went to Shad Esimeng, Ben Osbourne, Lukas Entoundi but none of them paid off.
The last ten minutes was all Talbot as they struggled to find a goal but outstanding defending from Craig Potter and Andy Troke meant the game stayed at 1-0 until the final whistle.

BSTFC A Team result: Lost 2-0 to Winford PH ‘A’
Rugby: St Mary’s Old Boys RFC
On Sunday morning there was some excellent rugby on show as St Mary’s Under-13s took on Clifton in the Gloucester Cup.
St Mary’s started well putting a lot of pressure on the Clifton defence who were struggling to get the ball clear. The first try came from Tom Gale after some confident passing out of the scrum.
St Mary’s were still dominating the possession and showing some great passing. A succession of scrums in the Clifton 22 led to the second try which was converted.
Clifton finally managed to get the ball into the St Mary’s half in the final few minutes of the first half but failed to score as the St Mary’s defence held firm.
Clifton did look more positive in the second half and started to string some passes together, but a fine break away try from Josh Bagnell, running unchallenged from the half way line to touch down under the post, left a simple conversion and the score moved to 19-0.
Two minutes later St Mary’s scored again, this time Austin Rowley broke through and ran even further, dodging the last defender to touch down.
It was Clifton who then turned on the pressure and got their first try with a strong run through the St Mary’s defence. Their final try came with only minutes to go after a scrum 10 yards off the St Mary’s line. This try was converted with the last kick of the game putting the final score at 24-12 and St Mary’s progress to the next round.

More Football: Bradley Stoke Youth FC
A local derby took place on Sunday afternoon when Winterbourne took on a bottom place Bradley Stoke Youth FC (BSYFC) Under-16s in the league. Winterbourne were the strong favourites as they had won six in six games before the clash, whereas the visitors had conceded 14 goals in their last two games. It was closer than expected, however Winterbourne made it seven out of seven as they came away with a 3-2 win.
It wasn’t long into the game until the favourites took the lead, a through ball played to Kieran Smith who slotted under the keeper to give the league leaders an early lead in the game.
This lead was doubled five minutes later when defender Mitch Vardy hit home a free kick from 25 yards, straight though goalkeeper Mattie Barrett’s hands.
It was Bradley Stoke that looked like they were playing the better football, nearly always first to the ball and showing great determination. This paid off when Nathan Redmore got his first goal of the game, striking a fine half volley into the far corner after a rare Thomas Woodland Scott mistake in the Winterbourne goalmouth.
At half time the home side favourites were ahead and went into the break with a lead of 2-1.
In the first ten minutes of the second half, Bradley Stoke again seemed to be playing the better football, showing off some great passing movements.
However, it was Winterbourne who got their third goal of the game and Kieran Smith got his second as he chipped the ball over the Bradley Stoke keeper and the ball found its way to the goal after clipping the post.
Bradley Stoke were looking for a comeback. This was helped when striker Nathan Redmore got his second of the game as he headed over the Winterbourne goalkeeper Tom Woodland-Scott
This brought the score back to 3-2 but that was how it stayed for the remainder of the game with some frantic but firm defending from Mitch Vardy and Connor Jewell.
