The Peacocks store at Bradley Stoke’s Willow Brook Centre has ceased trading today with the loss of 16 jobs.
The troubled fashion group went into administration on 18th January after failing to restructure debits of £240m.
Peacocks stores around the country had continued to trade since then whilst administrators at KPMG sought a buyer.
A press release put out by KPMG this afternoon revealed that the Peacocks brand and 388 of its stores had been acquired by Edinburgh Woollen Mill, adding:
“Unfortunately the remaining 224 stores were not included in the sale and have ceased trading with immediate effect, resulting in 3,100 redundancies.”
The Journal has been told that the Peacocks store in Yate will also close, with the loss of 14 jobs, but the Emersons Green branch will continue to trade.
The Peacocks store at the Willow Brook Centre first opened on 3rd June 2010.
Scott Lahive, Manager of the Willow Brook Centre told The Journal:
“The Peacocks store at Bradley Stoke is one of over 220 stores to be closed with immediate effect and our thoughts are with the staff who are affected by the closure.”
“It’s a credit to them that they have remained so motivated and enthusiastic about their store despite recent uncertain times.”
“Peacocks will be missed by our shoppers, it’s been a very popular store and we’re very sorry that a national decline has resulted in a local casualty.”
