The inaugural hosting of a weekly 5km parkrun on Saturday mornings in Bradley Stoke’s Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve is set to take place today (20th July 2024).
Hundreds of parkruns take place around the country at 9am every Saturday. Each event is a free-to-enter timed 5k run that is open to everyone and designed to be safe and easy to take part in.
Discussions about hosting a parkrun in Bradley Stoke have been going on ever since the Little Stoke Park parkrun ceased operating in April 2016.
The Bradley Stoke event faced opposition from some town councillors who said they were concerned about the potential impact on the nature reserve. However, following a public consultation held last year, the town council submitted a ‘no objection’ response to South Gloucestershire Council, the owner of the nature reserve. The local authority subsequently granted permission for the event to go ahead.
The route of the Bradley Stoke parkrun is formed of a “clockwise out and back double loop, starting near the picnic tables [at the Three Brooks lake, a.k.a. ‘the duck pond’]”.
Full details of the weekly event can be on the official Three Brooks parkrun webpage.
