A field of 484 competitors took part in this year’s Bradley Stoke 10k Run held on Sunday 9th June 2024 as part of the annual Community Festival.

Weather conditions were ideal for the runners, with sunny intervals and an air temperature of just 16 degrees – unusually cool for the time of year.

Some slight changes to the race route were introduced this year in order to reduce the number of road crossings and improve safety for competitors.

Instead of running down Brook Way from the start at the Jubilee Centre, runners headed down the footpath parallel to Braydon Avenue (which, as in previous years, also formed the final 1km of the route). The amended route also took runners around Webbs Wood Road and took a sharp left-turn off Bradley Stoke Way to re-enter the nature reserve after passing over Stoke Brook Bridge.

The winners of the men’s and women’s categories both registered exceptional times, faster than any recorded in the race for their respective categories since at least 2010, according to the Journal’s records.

Victory in the men’s race went to Marcus Dunsford (Bristol & West AC) in a time of 32:41, well clear of second man Shaun Hudson (Bristol & West AC, 37:21) who came just ahead of Nick Tuftnell (Bristol & West AC, 37:26).

First home in the women’s race, and an impressive second overall, was Freya Bradley (Westbury Harriers) in a time of 35:18 – almost 5 minutes faster than her time in 2023. The second woman to finish was Bradley Stoke 10k regular Jessie Sanzo (Bristol & West AC, 38:03) followed by BSCS Primary Phase headteacher Kelly Dicks (Great Western Runners, 40:30) in third.
