A dog show staged in Bradley Stoke’s Town Square on Sunday has raised over £400 for a local rescue charity.
The Family Fun Dog Show, organised by the Bristol Dog Action Welfare Group (DAWG) to mark National Pet Week, attracted an entry of 119 animals and raised £443 towards the group’s greyhound and lurcher rescue work.
DAWG’s patron Andrew Dilger (author of “Dash, Bitch of the Year“, as featured in the Daily Mail) was on hand to judge the Best Greyhound or Lurcher class, which was won by a Bristol dog called ‘Tippy’, rescued from a Council dog pound in Wales, where she had been due to be destroyed.
The Best in Show award was won by a Blue Merle Collie.
Geraldine Watkins, a trustee of DAWG, said:
“The judge, Hilary McEwen-Smith, did a wonderful job judging the show, which was obviously very difficult with so many wonderful dogs to choose from.”
“All in all an absolutely brilliant day, lots of money for our rescue to enable us to continue the work we do, and we would like to thank everyone who very kindly supported us.”
Another DAWG Fun Dog Show and Charity Auction is due to be held on Sunday 5th June, also at the Willow Brook Centre.
