Sponsored dog walk to mark charity’s anniversary

DAWG Family Fun Dog Show at the Willow Brook Centre, Bradley Stoke, Bristol

A local dog rescue charity is staging a sponsored dog walk in Bradley Stoke this coming Saturday, to mark the second anniversary of its formation.

The Bristol Dog Action Welfare Group (DAWG), which specialises in rescuing and re-homing greyhounds and lurchers, is the nominated charity for two Pets At Home stores in Bristol and its members are regularly seen collecting donations at Bradley Stoke’s Willow Brook Centre.

The group is inviting all dog owners to join them on a “leisurely walk” through the Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve on Saturday (5th March), starting from the Bradley Stoke Pets at Home store at 10:45am.

There is an entry fee of £2 per dog, with all proceeds going to DAWG.

Also joining the event will be author Andrew Dilger and his adopted greyhound Dash, who is the star of his latest book “Dash: Bitch of the Year“.

At 12.30 pm, he’ll be reading from the book and signing copies for purchase on the day, with 50% of the proceeds going to DAWG.

Geraldine Watkins, a trustee of DAWG, said:

“It’s a wonderful account of the trials, tribulations (and sheer fun!) of adopting an ex-racing greyhound.”

Dogs that the charity is currently looking to re-home will be taking part in the event, wearing special bibs so that potential new owners can identify them.
