The petrol filling station at the Tesco Extra store in Bradley Stoke will be temporarily closed for five weeks starting this Monday, 20th May 2024.
UPDATE: The filling station unexpectedly reopened on Friday 24th May 2024. See update below.
Customers have been made aware of the closure through a notice displayed on the door of the filling station kiosk, which states:
“Due to major works that must be carried out, Bradley Stoke Extra Petrol Filling Station and Kiosk will be closed from Monday 20th May 2024 to Friday 28th June 2024.
“The nearest Tesco Petrol Filling Stations are as follows:
Thornbury Superstore
Midland Way
BS35 2BSEastville Extra
Eastgate Road
BS5 6XUSorry for any inconvenience caused.”
The closest alternative petrol filling stations of any brand are Applegreen, Gloucester Road, Patchway (BS34 6NA) and Esso, Gloucester Road, Patchway (BS34 5BB).
Some customers posting on social media have complained that they were unaware of the upcoming temporary closure as they always use the ‘pay at pump’ facility and consequently never use the kiosk.
A post on the Willow Brook Centre’s Facebook page at 10am this morning (Sunday 19th) repeated verbatim the text on the kiosk closure notice.
As far as the Journal is aware, there has been no other publicity to raise awareness of the closure (such as a press release).
At the time of writing, the official Tesco webpage for the Bradley Stoke Extra Tesco Petrol Filling Station does not mention the closure and continues to show the usual 24-hour opening times.
Tesco PLC has been contacted for comment.

We’ve now heard back from the Tesco PLC press office.
A Tesco spokesperson said:
“The petrol filling station at our Bradley Stoke Extra will be temporarily closed for refurbishment for the next few weeks. We apologise for the inconvenience and look forward to welcoming customers back after the works are completed.”
Reopened after four days!
UPDATE added 24th May 2024.
Tesco Bradley Stoke petrol filling station has reopened today (24th May 2024) after a publicised “five-week” temporary closure that actually lasted just four days.
Judging by the state of the canopy there is still work to do.
