Anti-social behaviour back to “normal” levels after ring leaders cautioned

Police say anti-social behaviour (ASB) by youths at the Willow Brook Centre and elsewhere in the Stokes has returned to “normal” levels after two ring leaders were issued with behaviour contracts. Responding to concerns about youths “wearing ski masks and balaclavas”, a local PCSO explained that police are no longer able to stop and search them, but must instead “wait for them to commit a crime”.

Bradley Stoke students celebrate achievements in Post-16 qualifications

Students at Bradley Stoke Community School (BSCS) are celebrating their achievements in A-level and vocational qualifications following the publication of assessment results earlier today (Thursday 17th August). For many of the students in this cohort it was their first experience of sitting public examinations as their GCSE examinations two years ago were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Students left stranded as Winterbourne Academy bus service axed from September

Students from Bradley Stoke, Stoke Gifford and Patchway who attend Winterbourne Academy have been left stranded after it was announced that the bus service they use to get to and from school has been scrapped. South Gloucestershire Council has told the school that it is “very unlikely” that the 963 bus service will continue as it can no longer afford to subsidise it.

First Bus 73 service: Details of September route and timetable changes revealed

Timetables published this week confirm that the 73 bus service will be extended to terminate at the Approach Road stop in the Aztec West Business Park from Sunday 3rd September. However, on weekdays fewer than a third of journeys will go as far as Aztec West, with these being at off-peak times only (arriving between 10:23 and 14:57). There are also changes to the stops used by the service near Temple Meads Station.

Overnight road closures to precede months of contraflow on M5 around Almondsbury

Motorists are being warned to expect months of contraflow on the M5 motorway near Bradley Stoke in connection with bridge repair works being carried out by National Highways. The work is planned to commence with a month of overnight road closures from Monday 31st July 2023. Contraflow traffic management will be introduced from October 2023 and last until “summer 2024”.

Two hundred diseased ash trees set to be felled in Bradley Stoke South

Bradley Stoke is set to lose more than 200 trees that currently line roads, footpaths and open spaces in the town as part of South Glos Council’s response to the spread of ash dieback disease. Notices advising of imminent ‘tree removal’ have appeared at numerous locations, including Braydon Avenue (Bradley Stoke side), Bradley Stoke Way, Great Meadow Road and The Worthys.

Town councillor surgeries resume with ‘non-political’ twice-monthly schedule

Bradley Stoke town councillors have resumed the staging of regular ‘surgery’ sessions following a break that spanned the recent local elections. The purpose of the face-to-face advice surgeries is to give local residents an additional opportunity to discuss local issues with their elected representatives. The new council has reversed a controversial decision made in June 2022 to staff the surgeries on a ‘party political’ basis.
