A by-election held in March to fill a seat on Bradley Stoke Town Council that had become vacant following the death of a councillor cost local taxpayers a staggering £12,868, the Journal can reveal. The by-election saw 1,077 votes being cast from a total electorate of 7,056 (a turnout of only 15.3 percent), which works out at almost £12 per ballot paper.

Burlesque Chair Dance Bristol have raised £1,242 for Alzheimer’s Society by staging an ‘evening of burlesque’ event. The performing group, who are all members of burlesque chair dance classes run by instructor ‘Kiki Kisses’ (otherwise known as Bradley Stoke mum of three Laura Mcglinchey), are known as the Bristol Belles.

Work on Bradley Stoke Town Council’s troubled £105,000 scheme to “refresh” the play area at Baileys Court Activity Centre finally resumed on Monday 23rd May. The council now says it expects the new-look play area to be completed and open to the public by “the end of June”, barring any further unforeseen issues.

Agents acting on behalf of social housing provider Bromford have revealed plans to redevelop the site of the former Travellers Rest pub on the A38 Gloucester Road.
