Legally enforceable waiting restrictions have still not been implemented outside two Bradley Stoke primary schools despite it being almost 9 months since the associated legal orders were approved. South Gloucestershire Council has blamed the delay on the coronavirus pandemic and the weather.

Celebrating success at Kumon Bradley Stoke
The Kumon Bradley Stoke Study Centre is celebrating a hat-trick of awards, with star student James Smith receiving the prestigious ‘Completion Award’, Instructor Sarah Nutchey receiving a ‘Nurturing Completers’ award and the centre itself being recognised as one of the top 30 Maths and English Kumon centres in Europe and Africa.

Timetables for the First Bus service 73 are still on display at bus stops in south Bradley Stoke that were axed from the route over a week ago (on Sunday 30th January). This is despite the bus company being informed early last week that passengers unaware of the change had been seen waiting at the stops for buses that will never arrive.

Fourteen-year-old Pearl Bruford from Bradley Stoke baked up a storm in 2021 for the second year running, raising £943 for the Brightwell Centre in Wheatfield Drive. Pearl began baking at the start of lockdown in 2020 as a way to raise money for the charity, which provides therapies, services and support for people living with long-term neurological conditions.

Bradley Stoke’s Willow Brook shopping centre has confirmed that work is about to start on the construction of two controversial fast food & drink restaurants, both with drive-through facilities, that were granted planning permission on appeal in January 2020. If all goes to plan, the McDonald’s and Starbucks units could be open by August.

After having to take a 2-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, North Bristol Running Group will be starting a new ‘Couch to 5k’ course from February. The course will be held on Friday evenings, with ‘homework’ nights on a Wednesday evening. It starts on 4th February and will take place at Bradley Stoke Community School, commencing at 6.30pm.

A Bradley Stoke town councillor elected as an Independent at a by-election in May 2021 has announced that she has joined the Labour Party. Cllr Angela Morey won the by-election, for one of the six seats representing the Bradley Stoke North ward, with 38.7 percent of the votes cast. The Labour candidate in the three-way contest picked up just 24.0 percent.

The Olympus Academy Trust is consulting on proposed changes to admission arrangements for some of its schools with effect from September 2023. If approved, the changes would see the Reception intake of Stoke Lodge Primary School being halved and the minimum academic criteria for entry to the trust’s Post-16 programme being raised by one GCSE grade.

Members of Bradley Stoke Rotary Club have planted thousands of tiny crocus bulbs in a roadside verge with the aim of creating an annual floral display to celebrate the success of a worldwide programme to eradicate polio. The planting follows an earlier one alongside Baileys Court Road, which flowered for the first time in spring 2021.
