Residents facing soaring energy bills amid forecasts of freezing temperatures in the coming days are being offered the opportunity of using a number of free community ‘warm spaces’ that have been set up around Bradley Stoke.
Christ the King Church and Bradley Stoke Evangelical Church (BSEC) have each created warm spaces for the community to use, along with the offer of free refreshments. The space at Christ the King is open each weekday morning while the one at BSEC opens only on Monday afternoons.
Similarly, Bradley Stoke Town Council has set aside rooms on various days of the week at its three activity centres in the town: The Jubilee Centre, Baileys Court Activity Centre and Brook Way Activity Centre. Free hot drinks and biscuits are provided.
Full details of the opening days and times for each venue can be found on the Journal’s dedicated Warm Spaces information page, which also includes links to sources of advice for anyone struggling to pay their household energy bills amid the rising cost of living.
Another ‘warm’ venue that shouldn’t be overlooked is Bradley Stoke Library, where the regular offer includes free wi-fi and the use of computers. Opening times can be found on the Journal’s dedicated What’s On at Bradley Stoke Library information page.
Bradley Stoke Town Council has reported that, at the beginning of October, it wrote to ten businesses at the Willow Brook shopping centre asking if they would be prepared to set up a warm space on their respective premises. No responses had been received by the time the next Full Council meeting took place on 16th November 2022.
