Members of 1st Bradley Stoke Scout Group are busy preparing for the annual Remembrance parade and ceremony on Sunday 13th November 2022, our first physical Remembrance since the virtual events we put in place during the pandemic, writes event coordinator Dave Alexander.

Our own Scout group will of course have all its sections represented and will be joined by Trident Explorer Unit, 1st Stokeway Rainbows, 1st Bradley Stoke Rainbows, Brownies & Guides, 2nd Bradley Stoke Brownies, 2nd Winterbourne Brownies and 1st Little Stoke Brownies.

A representative from our local councils will be present and the Rev. Rich Cresswell will be representing the Churches of Bradley Stoke. The excellent Filton Concert Brass will join us in the town square to complement our own Scout marching band who will be accompanying the parade.

This year our young people are going to commemorate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

We will once again be making window displays for the Willow Brook Centre main entrance and would like to express a special ‘thank you’ to the Centre for both allowing the event to be held there as well as ensuring the war memorial has been cleaned.

Community invitation

We would like to extend an invitation to all members of our community to attend the ceremony. You are very welcome to lay a wreath or cross at the memorial (a small sand box will be put out next to the memorial nearer the day). As well as safety marshals on the parade, we will have a team ensuring everyone is in the right place and making the event work smoothly. Please do listen to any instructions given.

Event schedule

Local youth groups will parade from Zone H* in the car park at the Willow Brook Centre, Savages Wood Road BS32 8EF [map], starting at 10.30am.

* Zone H is between the service building on the corner as you enter the car park and the click & collect point for Tesco, i.e. very first parking area on the left as you drive in.

The Remembrance ceremony will take place in the town square at the Willow Brook Centre, Savages Wood Road BS32 8EF [map] from 10.45am to 11.30am.

This is not a military parade and as such timings and parade content may vary on the day.

Route change

UPDATE added 10th November.

The original version of this article stated that the parade would start from the Jubilee Centre, as it has in previous years. Since that version was published we have been informed by the Scouts that a “problem with police assistance” unfortunately means that the parade can no longer take place on public roads. Consequently, the parade will now start from Zone H in the Willow Brook Centre car park.
