Entrants in this year’s Bradley Stoke in Bloom (BSiB) Best Front Garden competition were presented with prizes and certificates at a ceremony staged on Saturday 13th August 2022 as part of the Scarecrow Trail launch event.
The competition, now in its tenth year, started in 2013 with just five entrants and its first winner was Maureen Hopkins, who despite everything life throws at her consistently makes the the top three, reports BSiB’s Sara Messenger.
We now have two categories, ‘large garden’ and ‘small garden’ as we felt it seemed a little fairer, and now we have two annual shields for our winners to polish as well as glass trophies for them to keep.
We’ve added a ‘Facebook favourite’ award so that the public can vote for their favourites too, and we now also have a ‘greenest garden’ award.
Our thanks go to Bradley Stoke Town Council, who started the group and have supported us all the way. And to all our judges and to everyone that donated prizes: Richard at Almondsbury Garden Centre (who have also supported us for more years than I care to remember), Zane at The Hollow Tree pub, Esther at the Aztec Hotel & Spa and Bradley Stoke Zero Carbon Group.
Prizes and certificates were presented by Bradley Stoke mayor Tony Griffiths, with the ceremony unusually taking place indoors within the Jubilee Centre building due to the scorching temperatures outside on Jubilee Green – hitting 32 degrees on the day, as reported on the Journal’s Heatwave (August 2022) page.
