1. You can’t blame SGC. Probably a transient fault on the power line or at the electricity substation. This evening’s brief cut (only a second or two here) caused PC’s to reboot, turned off my sky box, and set off various local security alarms.

  2. To be precise, three brief power cuts yesterday evening. Power cuts are as rare as hen teeth in Bradley Stoke so it would be interesting to know the cause.

  3. Western Power Distribution have provided The Journal with the following details of last night’s incident:

A fault in an underground cable at 19:56 initially resulted in power being cut to 1,530 customers in North Bradley Stoke.

Streets affected included: Oxen Leaze, Foxfield Avenue and Eagles Wood.

By isolating the faulty equipment from the network, WPD were able to restore power to 1,055 of the affected customers within one minute.

All of the remaining 475 customers affected had power restored by 20:25.

  4. I’d question WPD’s timings!

I noticed a flickering of our lamps starting around 6:30pm, and would flicker every 10-15 mins getting marginally worse each time. First power drop was around 1 second at 7:35pm and second drop for around 3 seconds at 7:42pm.

All was fine after the second drop.

This was in Fern Grove, central Bradley Stoke.

  5. When we first moved here power cuts happened regularly usually around Sunday lunch time!!! One Christmas the power went off in little stoke and everyone was cooking turkey and all the trimmings.
